The Legendary Five ep.1 by ~Usagi-Kage:iconUsagi-Kage:

“You lost boy?” A group of three Humans stare down a young blond Elf. The Elf seems cheerful, despite the Human's angry tone.

“[Yes, I am! Could you please help me?]” The Elf said. The Humans got mad.

“Yer in our home now Elf.” The Humans began to walk closer to him. “We don't like yer kind 'round here. Especially when they carry weapons!” He pointed to the broadsword tied to the Elf's belt. The Elf began to get nervous.

“[I mean no harm!]” The Elf suddenly realized that he had been speaking Elvish. “I... mean to... harm?” He tried his best to speak Common.

“Ye hear that! It's threatening us!” All three Humans unsheathe daggers. “Let's get him!” They dash towards him, but are stopped by three shadowy claws emerging from the ground! Behind the Humans stood two figures. One was a man wearing a hooded black cloak. His hands were clasped together and surrounded by a dark aura. The other was a brown haired woman. She wore blue and purple robes and had a long wooden staff.

“Ha! Finally caught you!” the woman said. “You three were tough to track down, but the bounty on your heads was well worth it. Better quite struggling or my creepy friend here rip you apart!” He didn't share her enthusiasm.

“Really?” The hooded man said. “You know how I hate being called creepy, and is 'rip you apart' the best you could come up with?”

“Will you just take them already!” She yelled. He groaned and walked away carrying the fugitives.

“I sank you.” said the Elf, realizing that he pronounce 'thank' wrong.

“You're welcome.” The woman said. “Do you need some help? You're a long way from Asorcaia.”

“Yer!” The Elf tried to say 'yes'. “Ai am...” He searched for the right words. “...traveling?”

“Well then.” The woman said. “Allow me to give you a tour. My name's Nicole, by the way. Nicole Beaumont.”

“My name ais Jherys. Jherys Medaesal.” He bowed. “It is... pleasing to meet you.” Nicole couldn't help but laugh at Jherys' trouble with the language.

“Follow me, we have to meet up with Devon.” Nicole said, grabbing Jherys' arm.

“Devon?” Jherys was curious.

“The creepy hooded guy I was with earlier.” Nicole said as they neared the police station. “He should be done dealing with those punks by now.” Devon was outside the station with a small bag of gold.

“Who's that?” Devon asked. Almost all of his face was obscured by his cloak.

“This is... Jerry?” Nicole had already forgotten how to pronounce his name. “Jonas? Johndice?”

“Jherys.” He cheerfully corrected. “If you wish, you could car me by something aersier.”

“The Common translation is Luthor.” said Devon, sounding rather bored. “You should use that name to stay under the radar, Jherys [the Holy].”

“[H-how do you know that!]?” Luthor was shocked.

“[You're very famous, Paladin.]” Devon spoke in perfect Elvish “<Well, I should say infamous.>”

“[You must be an Elf also! I'm happy to see-]” Luthor was cut off.

“[I am not an Elf!]” Devon shouted. Nicole was very, very confused.

“Be nice D, Luthor's going to be the newest member of our group!” Nicole said.

“I am not working with an Elf.” Devon said. “Especially this one.”

“I'm not going to pretend like I knew what you two were saying, but he seems nice enough, plus we need a swordsman!” Nicole said. She turned her attention to Luthor. “Do you know how to use that sword?” Luthor nodded.

“Alright, you're hired!” Nicole patted him on the shoulder. “You wanna help us on our adventure?”

“I would like that.” Luthor smiled. He turned to Devon. “[Please don't tell anyone about me.]”

“[Just stay out of my way.]” Devon said.

“[Humans are... Strange.]” Luthor said as Nicole and Devon walked ahead of him. Suddenly he heard a scream!

“It's coming from that way!” Nicole said, pointing to her left. “Let's go!” The group ran towards the commotion. There was a fight going on outside a local pub. A tall Beastman with light grey fur was cleaning house, swatting away everyone that came towards him. He wasn't wearing a shirt and he had metal gloves tied to his pants. His pupils were white as snow. The only other person left standing was a Halfling.

“C'mon ya furry bastard!” The Halfling yelled. He pulled a knife from his pocket. “Bring it on!” The scruffy looking red headed Halfling lunged forward to strike, but was met with the Beastman's claw. With the Halfling done with, he turned to the crowd...

The Beastman's claws met Luthor's sword. Bright red blood dripped down from the snow white blade. Luthor's eyes sharpened.

“I shall not let you harm these people.” Luthor said, his accent sounding magically better. The Beastman swung, but Luthor dodged.

“Still think we shouldn't bring him along?” Nicole nudged Devon.

“The Beastman isn't in control of his actions.” Devon said. Nicole gave him a puzzled look. “Look at his eyes, those are signs of a Berserker.”

“Idiot was just trying to break up the fight.” The two of them look down to see the Halfling crawl towards them. “Shoulda minded his own business.” Luthor and the Beastman continued trading blows. The whistling of the guards was getting closer. “Damn it, I can't go back to jail!”

“We have to knock some sense into him before Luthor kills him!” Devon said. The Halfling sighed.

“Ugh, stand back kids.” A blue aura surrounded the Halfling's hand and a jet of water streaked into the Beastman. He immediately snapped back to his senses.

“Nobody move!” The guards shouted.

“Wanna stay outta jail?” Nicole asked. “Then follow me!” She laughed as she ran. Devon buried his face in his hand. They ran towards the city gates as guards followed.

“I'm really, really sorry!” The Beastman ran incredibly fast, catching up with them. “Can I come too?”

“Five seems like a nice number!” Nicole shouted as they left the city.

Author's Comments

I was hoping to finish this by February. Yeeaah...

Anyway, here is the COMPLETE first episode of The Legendary Five. Why episode instead of chapter? Because TL5 has a more episodic flow than my other stories. Most of the stories are going to be loosely connected and not follow a direct narrative.

For those of you who don't know, TL5 takes place about 20-25 years before Corpse Wars and words between [] are spoken in Elvish. Because of silly HTML problems, I can't use <>.

Enjoy!

Fun episodic stories for the win, woot!

I can't help but lament the lack more episodic stuff in the RPG before the major stories kicked in.

Anyway, I like how this flowed, and I muchly like how Veet and Zye were introduced/recruited. Good stuff.

Thanks! Hopefully I can write more episodes faster.

You're welcome. I imagine that will be the case, because that would rock.

Plus the looser connection grants leeway in the level of effort needed to get from the end of one episode to the beginning of the next.
